Brick Weave Paving
Brick weave paving is instantly recognisable. It's a highly decorative and practical solution for your driveway. Although clay bricks are used traditionally, there are now alternatives such as specialised paving bricks which can be made in almost any size and colour. The bricks do not adhere to the ground surface. Thus any broken bricks can simply be lifted and replaced individually.
Stone Block Paving
Stone block paving slabs are available in different sizes to create a more irregular, natural layout. They are available in a wide range of styles and colours to suit any home and garden design styles. They are typically preferred in garden paving. However, some setts can be used for driveways. The smaller sett stones mean larger compatibility with curved edges and able to form patterns with different coloured stones.
Concrete Block Paving
Unlike brick and natural stone, concrete block paving does not refer to a distinctive style of paving. It instead uses the versatility of concrete to mimic the appearance of other materials, such as clay bricks in a weave pattern. While the appearance can be made to look similar, the fundamental difference lies in the practicality of the material.
Herringbone: This is the most common pattern you may see in a brick weave driveway. It's one of the strongest weave patterns because it offers the most interlocking bonds between the blocks. It's typically set at 45 or 90 degrees depending on the preference.
Stretcher Bond: You may recognise this bond as the "standard brick wall". It's the most straightforward pattern to lay, and you can add an interesting texture by using different toned bricks.
Basket Weave: This is a modular laying method which requires each brick/block to have a 2:1 proportion. This pattern is ideal for driveways which have a long straight edge.
Cobble Setts: Often mistaken as "cobblestone", setts are formed to a regular shape in contrast to the natural contour of the latter. They instantly bring a rustic, authentic appeal to country style homes and are known to be extremely durable.
Sandstone: One of the most popular options for stone paving. Amidst the wide range of natural stones available, they offer the best all-round option considering price, durability and physical appeal.
Slate: Available as small chips to add texture to the garden, or as large slabs to provide an appealing and practical surface. Slate adds a sleek and contemporary feel to complement modern homes.
Availability: Concrete blocks are widely available from paving suppliers, such as ourselves, in a great range of colours and styles to suit your specifications. If required, they can be commissioned to be manufactured from scratch.
Value for Money: Compared to clay bricks of the same dimension and quantity, concrete blocks are up to 50% cheaper. This is due to the availability of the material and their ease of manufacture.
Recycled Material: This is one of the great advantages of concrete over clay and quarried stone. Concrete blocks can incorporate recycled construction material such as glass and crushed rubble. This helps to reduce waste and contributes to lowering costs.
